Zochau is the city where all the hunters start on the Sixth Floor Hunting Grounds.
Description
Zockau is the designated capital city of the sixth floor, known as "The Hunting Grounds." It is a relatively large metropolis located in the north of the map, situated overlooking a clear valley. Architecturally, the town has the aesthetic of a small, American town from the 1950s, with commercial buildings surrounding a central town square.
The atmosphere is generally hostile toward Crawlers, as the city's police force—large, muscled, humanoid bear guards (Ursine)—is under orders to attack on sight. A prominent landmark is the enormous, opulent entrance to the Desperado Club, which, before its destruction, mirrored the city's mid-century modern design.
Layout
The city's layout is centred around a main stairwell to the seventh floor, which is located in a "quaint little park." [1] A statue of a bear-headed humanoid stands in the park. The streets are lined with pubs, including "The Ladies Love It" and "The Scuttlebutt" (the sole true saferoom on that particular street). The Desperado Club is located at the end of the line of pubs. The overall layout contributes to Zockau's function as a strategically important location due to its size and its stairwell access.
History
In each iteration of the Crawl, there is a named capital city, although the name changes each time. The city is a traditional initial drop point for all Hunters. Typically, upon the opening of this floor, a Hunter quickly seizes control of the capital by killing the existing NPC leadership and declaring themselves the "Grand" (mayor)[2]
