Village Guard Swordsman are a guard type NPC / mob on the Third Floor.
AI Description
Village Guard Swordsman – Level 75
Everyone likes the strong, silent type. In order to find out what’s underneath that helmet, you’ll have to first kill the guard. Go ahead and give it a try. I double dog dare you.
Village Guards are tasked with protecting the population centers of the third floor from the creatures who roam the Over City Ruins. They are only on duty when the sun is up, so don’t go whining to them for help when it’s dark. [1]
Description
Village guards are decked head to toe in plate mail and carry a long, steel blade. They are bulky and tall, with indeterminant race characteristics. [1]
Mordecai tells Carl and Donut when they are walking around the Third Floor:
"Don’t mess with the guards,” Mordecai said. “Don’t attack the NPCs. Don’t try to rob the stores. Don’t get drunk and pass out in the streets. There is no jail here. Only the death penalty. If you run afoul of the guards, don’t try to fight them. They are slow, but there are a lot of them. Run from them and into the ruins. They won’t follow you there. You will never be able to return to that particular village." [1]
Story
Book 2
Upon entry to the Third Floor, Mordecai walks Carl and Donut around to show them the town. He tells them not to fight the guards or they will be attacked and chased out of town. [1]
When Carl gets the Gate Pass, he summons a guard to show the pass to while he is near one of the dead bodies of the women in the Sex Workers Who Fell from the Heavens Quest. This allows him to dump one of the bodies on Miss Quill's desk and not have them react. [2]
During the confrontation with the 201st Security Group Militia, Carl and Donut try to goad the elves into attacking them first to have the guards attack the elves and not them. Before the elves attack however, the pregnant Dwarf Eunice hits one of the elves over the head with a rolling pin. This triggers the guards attack and they move to kill the pregnant dwarf. Carl punches them first. [3]
Warning: You have been branded as a troublemaker at this settlement. Guards will now attack you on sight. [3]
The Village Guard Swordsmen didn't wake up when the administrative building was blown up, as Mordecai had indicated that at night they were in "stasis" mode and would be invulnerable. [4]
