Terror the Clown

"Come on Donut,” I said. “Let’s go clown hunting."
-- Carl (Book 2, Chapter 5)

Once clowns-on-stilts performing at Grimaldi's Traveling Circus on the third floor, Scolopendra's curse transformed the stilt clowns into long-limbed monsters likened to "Slender Man dressed as a clown."

AI Description

Terror the Clown – Level 10

It’s okay if you just pissed yourself. You wouldn’t be the first.

Standing just over 11 feet tall, the clown-on-stilts was always a favorite amongst the snot-nosed kiddos visiting Grimaldi’s three-ring circus. Now, ravaged by time and the curse of the Over City, the once-affable stilt-clowns have been transformed into tall, blood-thirsty monstrosities who want nothing more than to make balloon animals out of your intestines.[1]

Description

Humanoid but roughly as tall as a short one-story house, the stilt clowns' stilts have merged into their long legs and their spindly arms hang almost to the ground. Their bone-white skin is splotchy, they do not have eyes or noses, and their too-large, red, tooth-filled mouth holds a long forked tongue.

The first stilt clown Carl encounters is armed with a butcher's knife and dressed in tattered, blood-stained clown clothes, with a curly-haired red wig and a little hat decorated with a flower on its head.[2]

Attempting to cast Fear on a stilt clown will trigger a system message: Warning: scary-ass mobs are immune to Fear effects.[2]

At Grimaldi's Traveling Circus, the stilt clowns patrol the surrounding area and - before nightfall - erect defenses around the circus.[3] Heather the Bear drags her victims back to the circus and feeds them to the clowns.[4]

Story

Book 2

Carl and Donut first come across the clown when fighting the Former Circus Lemurs. Carl attempts to cast his Fear Spell but it is rejected with the following message.

Warning: scary-ass mobs are immune to Fear effects. [5]

Donut shoots the clown with a Magic Missile, aiming for below the knee to knock it over. Carl jumps on top of it with Mongo, and he begins punching it until its dead. [5]
