Sponsors

“Did you see the thing that said people watching our feed get commercials from our sponsors?” Donut said. “I hope Princess D’nadia has lots of different commercials. There’s nothing worse than the same ad showing over and over and over."[1]

Sponsors (or Patrons) are organizations or individuals who pay a fee to advertise on a crawlers' channel, and can send Benefactor Boxes to that crawler. Crawlers with higher ratings will receive more sponsors.[2]

Getting Sponsors

In an obvious cash grab, Borant Corporation changed the traditional patronage system for Dungeon Crawler World: Earth. Crawlers are limited to three sponsors; they gain their first sponsor at the beginning of the Fourth Floor, their second on the Fifth Floor, and their final sponsor on the Sixth Floor. Starting on the Seventh Floor, sponsors can transfer patronage to other parties.[3]

An auction for sponsorship spots starts when the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth floors open, closing in about 45 hours. [4]. Bids start at one credit per crawler. Any amounts the sponsor pays above the "standard patronage fee" are reflected in Benefactor Box discounts; however, if a sponsor pays less than the standard patronage fee, they will need to pay more for the already expensive Benefactor Boxes.[3]

Functionally, this means that all crawlers will have sponsors, but only popular crawlers will receive Benefactor Boxes.

After bidding, the crawler receives the following notice:

Admin Notice. Congratulations, Crawler. You have been sponsored!

Viewers watching your feed will now occasionally see advertisements produced by your sponsor.

Sponsor’s Name: -.

Additional details available in the Sponsorship Tab of your interface.[5]

Sponsorship Tab

After a crawler is sponsored, the Sponsorship Tab appears in the crawler's Heads-Up Display (HUD) and Crawler Menus. Crawlers can use this tab to send messages to their sponsor, but sponsors cannot send messages directly to crawlers. This menu also allows crawlers to view:

  • Which organization their sponsors represent;
  • Any other crawlers that the patron is sponsoring.[6]
