The Sledge is a Cretin NPC employed as a body guard at the Desperado Club. Princess Donut is particularly fond of him. He is very close with Bomo, another Cretin bodyguard at the Desperado Club.
Appearance
A Cretin, The Sledge is a 7' foot tall rock monster dressed in a tuxedo.[2] After escorting Donut into the Penis Parade, he also wears a cowboy hat, pink feather boa, and a pin that reads, “I like my sausages extra-large. Penis Parade. Desperado Club Floor One.”[3]
Story
Book 3
On the Fourth Floor, Carl and Donut purchase The Sledge and Bomo as private security while visiting the Desperado Club. Donut immediately takes a liking to "Sledgey," and he "takes her dancing" by doing an approximation of the robot while she bops and twirls on his shoulders.[2]
The Sledge fails to prevent Ji-Hoon from attempting to assassinate Donut; however, rather than require retribution, Carl requests The Sledge and Bomo as the Royal Court of Princess Donut's permanent (complimentary) club security team.[4] The Sledge purchases a magic protection spell with his own money, specifically to protect Donut when she visits the club.[5]
Thinking about how Katia Grim might be leaving the team to return to Hekla, Carl wonders if he can hire Bomo or the Sledge to be the tank of the party. [6]
On their third trip to the Desperado, Donut looks for more crawlers to add to her chat in the Penis Parade. Sledge goes with her for protection. When they come back, both are wearing pink feather boas. Sledge is also wearing a cowboy hat and a pinback button that reads “I like my sausages extra-large. Penis Parade. Desperado Club Floor One.” [7]
Book 5
When Carl is forced to temporarily give up the Gate of the Feral Gods at the beginning of the Sixth Floor, Quasar negotiates a deal to ensure that the artifact is returned on the Ninth Floor.[8] The deal gives the Royal Court a Mercenary Quarters upgrade; appoints Bomo,The Sledge, Clay-ton, and Very Sullen as Mercenaries, with the ability to regenerate at the start of each floor should they die; and gives The Sledge the spell, Zerzura Spell.[9]
The Sledge and the 4th floor Changelings sneak into Queen Imogen's castle during the Butcher's Masquerade, crashing the Twister into an elf turret in the process.[1] At Carl's command, The Sledge casts Zerzura to teleport the castle, himself, the changelings, and an assortment of NPCs to the Ninth Floor. Before he goes, he requests, "No let Bomo beat my Frogger score."[10]
