Protections

Protections are a core Dungeon mechanic that are supposed to apply to tourists and Dungeon Admins. Due to cost cutting measures, the Borant Corporation chose to apply them after the Third Floor.

Mechanics

When someone is covered by "protections," it means that the System AI is holding some of their Health in reserve. They feel real pain when injured, but the AI will teleport them out of the Dungeon before they can die.[1]

In typical crawl years, all Dungeon Admins,including Managers are covered from the first floor. Guild masters and other NPCs are not covered. Tourists who attend the Faction Wars (game) are typically given protection, though those on the Hunting Grounds are not. [1]

Book 2

Mordecai explains he will be covered by dungeon protections after the Third Floor. The Borant Corporation choose to not implement the safety measures until the third floor as a cost cutting measure. This is why Zev wears her protective suit. [1]
