Infiltrator


Similar to Gondii and Intellect Hunters, Infiltrators (AKA Scree) are an aquatic brain parasite that can take control of a living brain.[1][2] Crawlers may choose the "Infiltrator" race on the Third Floor.[2]

Description

An Infiltrator "infects" a living (often unaware) target and gradually sinks into their brain over the space of a few days. Once settled, the infiltrator seizes full control of the host's body, and "the host can do nothing but watch as they are moved like a puppet."[2] The Infiltrator cannot move to a new host until the current host is dead.

In the Dungeon, an infected crawler's Crawler Number changes to the Infiltrator's Crawler Number. The Infiltrator does not have access to the host's inventory or Crawler Menus.

Infiltrators are difficult to kill, but can be killed with an antiparasitic.[2]

Story

SPOILERS FOR BOOK 4
Maggie My chooses this race on the Third Floor and promptly infiltrates Chris Andrews. Once she controls his body, she separates from Meadow Lark, tracks Frank Q to the Desperado Club, and then proceeds to hunt down Carl. Her stated goal is avenging Yvette's death. Carl is able to use a phase potion to pull her out of Chris' head and then a double-healing potion to eject Maggie from himself, severely weakening her. Mongo finishes Maggie off by devouring the worm, although he vomits it up multiple times, giving Donut the chance to take her inventory.
