Hobgoblin Detonator

Donut heaved for breath. “Yes. A huge. Ugly. Goblin. My word. I do not like running. He was sitting down, reading a book. Blow it, blow it good.”[1]

Hobgoblin Detonators are single-use magical items that can be used to detonate up to ten explosive devices at the same time. It has a range of approximately 10 km (6.21 miles).[2]

Each detonator looks like a stick of underarm deodorant. To use, you snap off the tip (which can be snapped up to ten times) and place the broken-off part into the explosive device. When ready, you click the button and the explosion will detonate five seconds later.[2]

Story

Book 1

Carl finds three Hobgoblin Detonators and a small amount of Hobgoblin Pus in the Goblins neighborhood of the First Floor. He uses one detonator to figure out how it works, and the second detonator to launch a cart of explosives into the Goblin War Chieftain's boss chamber (resulting in the War Criminal Achievement and You Monster! achievements). Carl lets a bit of the detonator stick out of the barrel, hoping that the boss will spend his last few seconds trying to remove the detonator.[2]

The remaining detonator is the third most valuable item in Carl's inventory, after the Tome of Wisp Armor and the Goblin Copper Chopper.[3]

Book 2

Carl plants Gobin dynamite around the building of the Village Guard Swordsman and uses a Hobgoblin Detonator to be able to set off all 10 of the charges at once. He gives the detonator to Katia Grim to put in her inventory while they confront Remex. [4]
