This is what it’s like to go crazy, I thought. To lose control.
No, Grimaldi answered. No, son. This is nothing like that.[1]
Ringmaster Grimaldi is a level 85 City Boss Elite that Carl meets on the third floor.
Redstone Grimaldi was originally a dwarf and husband to Tsarina Signet. He was the ringmaster of the 'great and wonderful Grimaldi's Traveling Circus' before he was transformed to a Pestiferous Vine by the poison cloud of the cataclysm.
AI Description
Ringmaster Grimaldi - Pestiferous Vine
This is an Elite.
Level 85 City Boss!
Before the cataclysm, if you asked any child of the sprawling Over City what their favorite activity was, a good number of them would happily tell you of the great and wonderful Grimaldi's Traveling Circus. Children dreamed of walking outside and seeing the long line of circus carts rumbling through the streets, of the tents being erected in their local park. Circus night was a holiday. A time of joy.
To Redstone Grimaldi, nothing was more important than his family. He loved each and every one of them. When the cataclysm came, and the poison cloud swept over the circus, he was center stage. He remains there to this day.
Transformed from a simple dwarf to a hulking Pestiferous Vine, Grimaldi uses his special powers to keep his family safe and alive. No matter how many times they die, no matter how many crawlers the clowns devour, he brings them back, memories intact. Well, mostly intact. Somewhere in there Grimaldi may be aware that this may not be the most moral of choices. But that's what we do when it comes to family. We protect them at all costs.
And besides, you know what they say.
The show must go on. [2]
Appearance
In his vine form, Grimaldi looks like a giant bushy vine, filling the center ring and reaching the ceiling of the tent. The vine is a pale green color. Multiple vines stretch out from the center stalk, filling the center ring. [2]

Story
Book 2
Tsarina Signet tells Carl that she loves Grimaldi. After her mother died, he took her in and protected her from the high elves on the Hunting Grounds. Later in life they fell in love and wanted to have a family together. When Scolopendra's attack hit, Grimaldi was in the middle of a show. He transformed into a vine while the rest of the crew got infected with the mold parasites, putting them under Grimaldi's control. If any of the crew members die, they return to the vine and are reborn the next day. [3]
Signet and Carl return the following night to attack Grimaldi. Mordecai tells Carl how to kill a Pestiferous Vine by feeding it poisoned blood. Carl does this, then contacts the Vengeance of the Daughter show to threaten to heal Grimaldi if he doesn't get an exclusive contact to continue on the show on the Sixth Floor. [1]
After the show agrees, Carl heals Grimaldi and eats one of Apollon the Mighty's parasitic worm covered ice cream cones. This enables him to speak directly with Grimaldi through the worms. [1]
Carl staggers out of the tent and goes over to Tsarina Signet. He encourages the two of them to talk, saying that the attack on Grimaldi wouldn't have worked. Carl and Signet convince Grimaldi (or the producers of Vengeance of the Daughter) to un-banish Signet and end the circus. [1]
Book 3
The zombified Cornets in the Trainyard are crawling with worms, reminding Carl of Ringmaster Grimaldi and his circus crew. [4]
