Goblins

To offer goblins funpowder is like offering water to a piranha.[2]

Goblins are a race of small green humanoids that are common antagonists in fantasy and tabletop games. They are present on the first floor, and were the first enemies Carl encountered in the World Dungeon.

Description

Small and reckless, the Dungeon's goblins are associated with explosions and unstable contraptions. Crawlers who receive explosion-related achievements earn Goblin Loot Boxes containing ever-unstable Goblin Dynamite and goblin smoke bombs, and may earn skill points in the Goblin Explosives Skill.

Goblins live in clans lead by a War Chieftain or - occasionally - Goblin Warlord. Goblin Shamans (or Shamankas) specialize in Anguish Magic, and serve as the leader's second-in-commands.[2] If a crawler kills only one goblin in a group, the others will return shortly after with the rest of the clan.[3]

Their guttural language sounds like grunts and squeaks, and their laughter is high-pitched and squealing.[1]

Appearance

Green-hued humanoid creatures that stand approximately 4 ft (1.2 meters) tall, goblins are mostly bald and have "pointed ears, angular faces, and sharp teeth." On the first floor, the goblins are unarmored and clothed in leathery rags.[1]

Classes

There are several variations of Goblins that appear in the World Dungeon with various attributes.

Goblin (No Class)

Goblins wielding pineapple clubs

AI Description:

"Small, green and smart. What Goblins lack in physical strength they make up in pure spunk."[4]

Lower level goblins are the most common class of goblin on the first floor. They are armed with wooden sticks with pineapples at the end.

Goblin Engineer

AI Description:

"Engineers. The incels of the goblin world. They have a hard time finding a date, which makes them extra angry. If there are any females in you party, they will attack them first."[4]

Goblin engineers seem to be responsible for creating and maintaining the goblins various constructs. The first Goblin Engineer that Carl meets is driving the Goblin Murder Dozer and carries a small, curved blade.[3] All goblin engineers wear something odd on their heads, whether a pot, a hockey helmet, or boxers' headgear.[2]

AI Description:

"These bastards are more unhinged and sadistic than those guys who couldn’t pass the psych exam to join the military. Bomb Bards are experts with explosives, and they strike with a variety of ranged attacks that’ll blow your socks off. If the one you’re looking at right now has more than half of his fingers, then he’s probably very, very dangerous."[2]

When preparing for battle, the bomb bards wear metal helmets with a spike at the top; the spike shoots sparks, allowing the bomb bards to light dynamite sticks and bombs by raising them over their heads.[5]

Goblin Shamanka & Goblin Shaman

AI Description:

"In case you’re wondering, Shamanka is just a fancy way of saying female shaman. Goblin Shamans are the leader class of all goblin clans, second only to the War Chieftain or, more rarely, the Goblin Warlord. They are without humor and are said, as part of their training, to have to pick two of the following three actions in order to graduate Shamanka University: they have to fuck, cook, and/or eat their own parents. Most don’t pick cook. And if that wasn’t messed up enough, they specialize in Anguish Magic, a dark magic school designed to focus and enhance damage from other attacks."[2]

Shamankas are marked by heavy facial piercings and black robes. Their wooden staffs are topped with carved pineapples.[2] Shamankas are able to enchant objects to direct damage or, in the event of an explosion, focus the blast.[3]

Goblin steam engines run on coal, but use a permacube rather than a lesser demon.[5]
