“You’re just mad you’re not going to get the chance to go skydiving again,” I said, putting the telescope away.[1]

The Enchanted Gnome Farseer is a telescope developed by the Dirigible Gnomes on the Fifth Floor. The large, heavy telescope appears to be a white tube made of a ceramic-like material, covered in pipes and gears, and has a clamp on the bottom to attach to a table or the gunwhale of a boat or airship. A "turny thingy" on the right side allows the user to zoom in and out, and the resulting image is magically rendered accurately and clearly, even in low light.[2][3]

AI Description

Enchanted Gnome FarSeerer.

Used to sight long-range targets for their bomb runs, the FarSeerer is credited as one of the key inventions that allowed the Dirigible Gnomes to obtain air superiority. When properly installed on a Gnomish Dreadnaught, this device increases the accuracy of gravity-based bombs by 75%. Allows for inspection and information on objects at a distance. It’s pretty good for spying on your neighbors, too. You don’t need porn when you got this thing hanging off the edge of your airship.

Warning: All gnomes targeted with this device are given a notice that they are being watched.[4]

Story

Book 4

After entering Hump Town on the Fifth Floor, Carl sees the Farseer mounted on top of a residence and promptly goes to check it out.[5][2] Skarn, a juvenile changeling, answers the door and happily teaches Carl how to use it in exchange for a gold coin. As Carl inspects the Wasteland, Skarn explains that Flint found the telescope in the mess of war rubble in the dunes.[2]

Not long later, Carl returns and warns the kid to run to the toe if the Dirigible Gnomes begin dropping bombs. As he talks, Donut steals the Farseer from the roof in ten seconds. She was supposed to leave 30 gold coins behind, but claims to have "forgotten."[3]
