Dwarven Industrial Light-Duty Automaton Contraption is an automaton on the Iron Tangle. They are used to help the monsters get from the Exit-only cavern back to the first stop.

AI Description

Dwarven Industrial Light-Duty Automaton. Contraption.

This contraption is in Sleep Mode.

These smaller-sized, industrial workhorses are used to complete simple tasks, such as pushing bins full of ore up from the depths. They are not designed or commonly used for fighting or defense, but who are we kidding? Like you’d have a chance against these things if they wanted to smush you. [1]

Appearance

The Automatons are the silver and black robots the size of bulldozers. At first they look roughly like lumpy blocks of metal but on closer inspection they have arms and legs. When in sleep mode they vent hot exhaust. [1]

Story

Book 3

The Royal Court of Princess Donut encounters these automotons when exploring Banshee Station on the Iron Tangle. Hekla and Eva tell Katia that they have also encountered the robots. Donut suggests blowing them up. Carl agrees and Katia recommends killing all the Cornets first. [1]

Carl uses 3 sticks of Hobgoblin Dynamite and a Hobgoblin Detonator to blow the automatons up. The bottom half of the robots remain mostly intact but the top half turns to hunks of metal. Carl collects as much as he can, including two Dwarven Batteries. [1]

Imani and Elle get stuck at station 277 due to the trains crashing and attempt to use the method that the monsters use to get from an Exit-Only Cavern back to a higher station number. The find the Dwarven Industrial Light-Duty Automaton Contraptions and realize that the automatons only turn on after the monsters start to transform from the DTs. [2]

There is a system similar to a rollercoaster that will send monsters all the way back to the Train yards, but it's not clear which one they go to before getting on. Only the Festering Ghouls can get into the rooms, due to the Control Sigil. [3]

Elle dubs the rollercoaster the "ghoul coaster". [4]
