Chris Andrews is a crawler from Wenatchee, WA, and one of the original members of the Meadow Lark party. He regularly teams up with the Royal Court of Princess Donut and Katia Grim.
Description
Before the transformation, Chris and his brother Brandon Andrews were maintenance workers at the Meadow Lark Elder Care Facility in Wenatchee, WA. They were working after hours to repair an oven when Agatha set fire to the facility's kitchen, and they helped evacuate the patients into the freezing night. After the collapse, they moved their wards into the warmth of the surface-level stairwells until the stairwell prevented Brandon from leaving. When Chris grabbed his hand, he was trapped as well. With no better options, they descended into the Dungeon with a group of coworkers, former patients, and emergency responders. By the time they meet the Royal Court of Princess Donut, Brandon, Chris, Imani, and Yolanda Martinez are the party's only surviving able-body members.[2]
Chris is quiet but empathetic, with some engineering skills and a tendency to loot everything he can.[3] On the Third Floor, he chooses the lava-rock Igneous race and Zulu Warrior Class, which was likely inspired by the magical spear he learns to summon on the First Floor.
Appearance
On the First Floor, Chris is a black man who looks similar to Brandon but is "taller and less stocky." He wears a metal skullcap as armor but does not appear to have any weapons.[2] During the battle against the Ball of Swine, Chris has an Unnamed Spell that summons an ethereal spear that last for 5 minutes. History
Chris has never talked much, which caused his mother to think he may be "slow" and enroll him in a special school. Brandon explains, "But he's not dumb. He does talk. Think of him as Silent Bob. If he says something, you better listen."[4]
Story
First Floor
Brandon and Chris choose to protect their wards rather than strike out in search of a stairwell, but take time to explore the First Floor. They defeat a neighborhood boss that looks like a floating crystal, but return to the group after Brandon gets Poisoned by a Troglodyte. Chris escorts the more mobile patients to the nearest safe room, which was formerly a Waffle House.[2]
The brothers returned to their wards, gathered in the hallway outside the Ball of Swine's chamber, and watch as the rest of their party is picked off one by one. By the time they meet the Royal Court of Princess Donut, Brandon, Chris, Imani, and Yolanda Martinez are the party's only remaining non-patients.[2]
When Carl returns to Meadow Lark with a plan, Brandon and Chris help him engineer spike strips and the "Speedbump" from looted tables, weight equipment, and Enchanted Shuriken of Bloodlust using only goblin-made tools. Brandon, Chris, Imani, Yolanda, Carl, and Donut work together to defeat the Ball of Swine and gain access to the stairwell.[1] Afterwards, Chris jogs back to the Waffle House to gather the thirty patients waiting there; despite his best efforts, only six choose to descend to the Second Floor.[5][6] After escorting the (39) remaining patients to a second floor safe room, Chris sits in a corner and hangs his head low.[6]
Second Floor
On the Second Floor, Brandon, Chris, and Yolanda decide to train by taking on Mind Horrors. The boss is a giant blimp inside an an abandoned warehouse, which Yolanda easily killed from a distance before it could exit the room.[3]
Book 3
After the race selection on the third floor Chris gets into a fight with his brother and leaves the Meadow Lark group. He takes several people with him but only Chris survives to the fourth floor. Brandon asks Carl to tell Chris he is sorry for fighting and that Brandon loves his brother.[7]
Imani sends Carl a message about meeting up at the Desperado Club to talk about Chris.[8] When they meet, she tells him more about Brandon and Chris' fight, and that Chris wants to join back up with Carl and Donut because they are “aggressive”. [9]
After Carl talks to Frank Q at the Desperado Club, Chris walks up to Frank and kills him, earning a ban from the club. [10]
