Tally

“It is a human scale. Now sit. Open boxes. Wait. Tally will bring you food, then you sleep.”[1]

Tally is the first Bopca Protector that Carl and Donut meet inside the Dungeon.[2]

Description

Tally agreed to work for Borant Corporation to save his own home world from a transformation.[3] He has worked for Borant Corporation for many cycles, and has spent years learning to make Earth food. He makes an awesome Murgh Vindaloo.[2]

On the First Floor, Tally is the caretaker of a safe room near the Hoarder's neighborhood; the safe room looks like a Polish fast-food restaurant, complete with a children's play area and pictures promoting hippopotamus and ferret plastic toys. After level collapse, he will be assigned to random lower floors until crawler extinction.[2]

Appearance

Barely taller than the countertop, Tally is a furry dwarf-like creature with so much hair on his face that his only discernable features are black eyes and veiny, red, bulbous nose. His hair is brown with an almost green tinge, and he smells faintly like wet moss. On the First Floor, he wears a blue apron, a plain paper hat, and a nametag.[2]

He speaks loudly, in clipped sentences, and with a Slavic accent.[2]

Story

Book 1

Tally is the caretaker of the first safe room that Carl and Donut find, some seven hours after they enter the Dungeon. He grumbles that the Dungeon has opened early, but his biggest concern appears to be his lack of supplies. He quickly warms to Carl when Carl tells him to make a food of his choice, and immediately treats Donut like the royal princess she is. After demolishing Tally's vindaloo, Carl decides to camp out in Tally's safe room for as long as possible.[2]

Although Tally cannot talk about the Dungeon, he advises Carl about safe rooms and Personal Space Upgrades.[4]
