Second Chance is a necromancy spell that allows the caster to raise a lower-level monster from the dead and turn them into an undead minion. The minion's level is 1/3 of its previous level (minimum level 1) and it will fight on the caster's side for a number of minutes equal to the spell's level.[2][3] As a minion, it can be targeted by minion spells such as Clockwork Triplicate.
Description
When casting the spell, both the caster's body and the target's body glow neon purple.[4] A countdown timer appears above the minion's head, and the creature is labeled as (for example): Undead Minion of Crawler Princess Donut – Unvaccinated Clurichaun Consultant – Level 1.[5] The caster does not have an interface or any sort of controls, but can issue verbal commands at level one.[4]
Corpses cannot be looted while they are minions. [6]
If the caster's class amplifies magic, such as in the Glass Cannon Class, then both the monster's minimum level and the duration of the spell are doubled.[7]
Levels
Level 5. At Level 5, the spell can target deceased creatures up to 5 levels higher than caster, and the duration increases to two minutes per spell level, with a max of approximately 10 minutes.[8][7]
Level 10. At Spell Level 10, the spell resurrects creatures up to 10 levels higher than the caster for a maximum of 15 minutes.[7]
Story
Book 1
Donut learns this spell from a tome she receives on the Second Floor from the Dungeon Book of the Floor Club. It is the first spell she learns from this "membership." [3] She uses it on a Clurichaun corpse at the start of the floor, and after a couple groups, raises the skill to level 3. [4]
By the time they are in the chamber for the Kobold boss fight, Donut is level 5 in the spell. Carl briefly considers having her raise some of the dead Danger Dingos that are in cages, but can't figure out how to open the cages. Before she can do anything, their boss battle begins. [8]
Book 2
At the start of the Third Floor Donut's ability in the spell is level 5. [9] Donut and Carl use this spell in conjunction with Protective Shell to form one of their Special Plays, "Mold Lion." [10][11]
Book 3
Donut trains this spell when fighting Cornets on the Iron Tangle. She raises the spell to 7, allowing each monster to remain animated for 14 minutes. [12] She practices with the spell again on the Babababoons at station 283. [13] Donut casts this again during the Vermillion Line Rescue on Hekla's corpse, followed by Clockwork Triplicate. [6]
