Safe Rooms can be found throughout the Dungeon and always appear in green on a crawler's minimap, even in areas otherwise shrouded by the "fog of war."[1][2] Safe Rooms typically include restrooms, sleeping areas and/or Personal Space access, and three television screens, and are often staffed by a Bopca Protector or other non-combatant NPCs.[1][3]
Anytime a crawler enters a Safe Room, they receive the notification: Entering Safe Room.[3]
Special Mechanics
Crawlers must be inside a Safe Room to open Loot Boxes or (after Third Floor race/class selection) distribute any stat points earned by leveling up.
Theft & Violence
Crawlers may not steal or commit violence inside safe rooms. It is "a strict, ironclad rule" with a three strikes policy:
- First Strike: Crawler is frozen in place for 100 seconds and forced to listen to an automated recording about "playing nice" while the word Naughty blazes over their head.[4]
- Second Strike: Crawler is frozen in place for one hour.[4]
- Third Strike: Crawler is stripped of all gear and teleported into a mob nest.[4]
Mobs & Bosses
Safe Room doors may not open if there are mobs outside.[5] If the door is already open, mobs and even bosses may enter safe rooms and interact with the objects and occupants (or simply trash the room) inside.[4][6] The mob will teleport to a random place within one square mile (1.609 km2) of the safe room if it attempts to attack anyone inside the safe room.[1]
Safe Room Closure
Starting on the Second Floor, all safe rooms will close one hour before level collapse. [7]
Experience
Crawlers can only cast non-violent spells in safe rooms (such as Clockwork Triplicate) but will not gain experience from casting. [8]
Layout
On the upper tutorial floors, Safe Rooms can be found every few miles and take the form of restaurants and rest areas teleported from Earth's surface: a Peruvian Taco Bell, an Alabama Waffle House, a Polish fast food restaurant complete with kid's play area, a dingy DMV waiting area, etc. The windows show nothing but solid walls beyond.[3][9]
Safe Room Screens
Safe Rooms generally have three monitors displaying information in Syndicate Standard. On the first three floors, the monitors typically stand where a menu would otherwise be.[3]
Screen 1
The first screen shows countdown timers to level collapse and the next episode of Dungeon Crawler World: Earth above the number of remaining crawlers, which makes a barely audible "clink" sound as it updates in real time.[3][9] The screen is formatted as:
Countdown until Level Collapse:
- days, - hoursCountdown until the [premiere or next episode] of Dungeon Crawler World: Earth.
- hours, - minutes.Remaining Crawlers:
4,322,395[10]
Screen 2
The second (center) screen shows Dungeon Crawler World: Earth when it tunnels, and the most recent leaderboard for the 29 hours between episodes.[11] On the first three floors, the screen shows the following message instead of the leaderboard: Leaderboard will populate upon collapse of the third level.[3]
Following the first recap episode after the Third Floor collapses (approximately 24 hours after Fourth Floor countdown begins), the "Current Leaderboard" displays the top ten highest-rated crawlers.[12] The leaderboard only updates after the recap episodes; it does not update in real time, even though crawler ratings are always changing. Each line shows the top crawler's Crawler Name, race, class, current level, and bounty, formatted as:
6. Carl – Primal – Compensated Anarchist – Level 27 – 100,000[13]
Screen 3
The third screen shows information specific to the given Safe Room. A typical example of this screen on an upper floor is:
Welcome to the Safe Room.
You are on the First Level.
Rental Rooms currently available: 20
Rental Room price: 0 gold.
Personal spaces will become available for purchase on the fourth level.
Food is available at this location.[14]
Sleeping Areas & Rental Rooms
Safe Rooms typically include sleeping areas. These may be rooms available for rent (free on the first two floors), or may be some cots with curtains around them.[3][9] The rental rooms are small and cooler than the humid Dungeon, with comfortable beds fitted with clean white cotton sheets.[5]
When a crawler sleeps in a safe room, their dot does not appear on the minimap and they appear intangible and translucent to anyone who is not in their party.[4]
Restrooms
Restrooms are everywhere in the Dungeon, and Safe Rooms are no exception. Safe Rooms have larger, full service restrooms with shower stalls, soap and shampoo dispensers, and shaving cream and disposable razors (towels may not be provided).[5] Unlike the hallway bathrooms, multiple crawlers can occupy the same bathroom at the same time in a safe room.[4]
The toilet areas only are not visible to the production company or Syndicate audiences.
