“Now Carl, that wasn’t very nice,” Miriam said, her voice gentle yet scolding. “We did save your life.”[2]

Miriam Dom is a crawler from Italy who entered the Dungeon with fifteen Boer goats. She soon becomes one of the Top Ten Crawlers, and a reliable ally of the Royal Court of Princess Donut.

Description

Before the transformation, Miriam was a middle-aged vegan and pianist with a goat farm located in rural Italy. She has "a gentle, motherly sense about her," and entered the First Floor with fifteen Boer goats.[3][4]

On the Third Floor, she chose to remain human and took the healer-type Shepherd Class before giving Enhanced Pet Biscuits to three of her goats: Prepotente transformed into a caprid; Bianca into a Hellspawn Familiar; but Angelo's transformation "didn't go so well," ultimately resulting in the death of several goats.[5][4] Miriam and Prepotente soon develop a system in which Miriam conceals their presence and puts their target to sleep, and Prepotente carefully stacks debuffs on the target until it dies.[6][4]

Once Miriam had enough Pet Carriers, she began storing her ten remaining goats in her inventory outside of Safe Rooms and programs.[4] After she was turned into a Vampire on the Fifth Floor, she transferred her eight remaining goats and Bianca to Prepotente's inventory for safekeeping.[7][8] She gained the ability to float, but her skin was ice cold and she required a great deal of blood to survive. She'll only eat creatures that Pony has killed.[4]

Appearance

She appears to be around 40 years old, a little plump, and has dark hair and callused hands. She carries a long staff with a hook at the end and wears a robe.[6][4][8] She has an old, faded tattoo of a musical note on the skin between her thumb and forefinger.[8]

History

Miriam grew up on a goat farm in the rural countryside outside of Parma, Italy. She hated the farm as a child, and left to pursue her own life and career. As a young woman, Miriam fell in love and became engaged; however, she never married. She felt a sense of duty to her aging parents, and returned to the farm to care for them and the animals. Her parents passed away twenty years later, and by then, she "was too rooted." She had fallen in love with the farm life, the countryside, her responsibilities, and most of all, her "children," the goats.[8]

Story

Book 1

Miriam Dom enters the First Floor with fifteen goats, which are classified as dungeon familiars by the System AI. She successfully herds all fifteen through the first two floors, and the show Plenty of Plenty quickly becomes "obsessed with her."[3]

Book 2

On the Third Floor, she chooses to remain human and takes the healer-type Shepherd Class. While she had started with 15 boer goats, she only had 5 left. Three goats remained unchanged, but the two remaining goats had been given Enhanced Pet Biscuits: Prepotente, her "special boy," transforms into a caprid; Bianca, into a Hellspawn Familiar [5]

A third goat, Angelo, had also been given a pet biscuit, but his transformation "didn't go so well," ultimately resulting in the death of three goats.[4]

Book 3

Early on during the Fourth Floor, Miriam and Pony appear on Planet Beautiful and discuss Earth hip-hop culture.[9]

Carl and Donut first meet Miriam near the end of the Iron Tangle, when Carl's team teleports a Station Mimic into the abyss, unaware that Prepotente was some two hours away from killing the Province Boss with debuffs. Miriam and Pony believed its death would detonate multiple Soul Crystals, which would allow remaining crawlers to safely travel to the next floor. Pony threatens both Carl and Imani until Miriam whacks him over the head with her staff and tells him to apologize. When he does, she kisses the top of his head. Carl has questions, but Miriam departs with a casual, "Maybe some other time, sweetie. We need to find a different boss monster now. Ciao!"[6]

She and Pony find a second Province Boss, and she casts a spell to render it unconscious for a few seconds. Pony follows up with a number of potions and spells, which increase the unconsciousness timer from ten seconds to five hours. As they start stacking debuffs onto the boss, Quan Ch zips in and wakes it up, forcing the team to flee.[10]

Book 4

On the Fifth Floor, Miriam and Prepotente end up in a bubble laid out like a giant cave, with rocks growing along the inside of the sphere. Trapped in the air quadrant, they are restricted to a shelf of rock ringing the interior wall and must take out a spider nest hanging thousands of feet over their heads.[10] In the first five days, they defeat the spiders by applying a sleep debuff that caused the spiders to plummet to their deaths, conquered the subterranean zone, and head underwater.[11]

With their bubble almost complete, Miriam alone is pulled from the Dungeon to feature on Dungeon Sidekicks. While she and Katia Grim sing karaoke together, Pony has a panic attack, goes "berserk," and runs off. She searches for him after returning to the Dungeon, only to be struck with a curse that turns her into a Vampire.[7] Due to her new affiliation, Club Vanquisher revokes her membership.[12] All the excitement and vampirism does not prevent her and Pony from killing a level 150 feral turkey.[13]

The curse becomes permanent when she descends to the Sixth Floor. Carl notes that the showrunners chose the Vampire class because she had been a vegan for years, and they thought it was funny.[14]

Book 5

SPOILERS FOR BOOK 5

On the Sixth Floor, Miriam and Pony travel to Zockau immediately to cast debuffs on the partying hunters: one to increase inebriation, and one to cause the hunters to fight each other. Carl proceeds to disrupt their plans by bombing Zockau and nearly getting killed in the process. Miriam and Pony load Carl's unconscious body into a cart pulled by Bianca and begin traveling away from the city. Miriam heals Carl and reassures Donut. When Carl and Pony inevitably get on each other's nerves, Miriam orders them to apologize to each other and then hug. When she beams, her vampire fangs are visible.[4] Afterwards, Carl trades fist bumps with both Miriam and Pony, and they promise to notify each other if they might get in each other's ways.[15]

Carl sends Miriam questions (and zero context) over chat, and Miriam gamely responds with detailed information. She asks if he's feeling better, tells him how to disarm various traps on the route, and warns him to be careful.[16] Carl continues to send her occasional messages and questions, and her answers are always friendly and informative. Finally, Miriam initiates a chat: "I need help. Are you still near Prepotente number four? I am not far. I am trapped. Dawn will break in 10 hours, and if you do not come before then, I will not survive."[17]

Miriam and Pony were targeted by Viscount Fog, an elite from the program Blood Hunter.[8]

During the 6th floor Miriam and her party get involved in an elite quest that goes awry. Vampirism starts spreading to the mobs in the dungeon. Prepotente's Ring of Divine Suffering is accidentally triggered and targets Miriam Dom. Prepotente is inflicted with the Left to Fester debuff, and as a result cannot heal until Miriam dies. Miriam asks Carl to kill her so that Prepotente doesn't have to do it. Carl and Donut stay with her until the sun rises and kills her due to her vampire status.
