Inventory is a core Dungeon Mechanic managed by the System AI. After completing the Tutorial, crawlers can access their inventory using the Inventory Menu.
On this season of Dungeon Crawler World, crawlers enjoy "a dimensional inventory and AI cataloging system": basically, unlimited inventory capacity and the ability to unlock new filtering/sorting options.[2] In contrast, NPCs, mobs, and tourists have a limited grid-based inventory system outlined below.

Inventory Menu
Crawlers may view, organize, add, and remove inventory items using the Inventory Menu and their Heads-Up Display (HUD). Potions and similar consumable items can be stacked up to (999) per slot and may be added to a crawler's hotlist.[2]
The only time a crawler may view another crawler's inventory is when looting the other crawler's corpse (described here); however, crawlers may view their party members' equipped gear using the Party Menu.[3]

The basic crawler inventory is sorted into a multitude of tabs/submenus, which constantly change as crawlers add and remove items from their inventory. Common tabs include: Food Items, Gross Shit, Healing, Pharmaceuticals, Potions, Quest Clues, and Worthless Garbage.[4][5][2][4][2][6][7]
Unopened Loot Boxes appear in the "Awards and Boxes" tab and are marked as Ready to Open; the tab glows until the crawler reviews the list.[2]
Crawlers may unlock new sorting options and tabs such as "History" by leveling up the Determine Value Skill.[8]
Adding Items
Items are added to inventory by opening the Inventory Menu and mentally clicking an "Add Item to Inventory" button. Once added, the physical item disappears and is added to the character's inventory list.[2] Once added or received, items appear in the New tab.[9]
If a full container is added to inventory, its contents are automatically indexed and sorted by the System AI. The crawler can choose to keep everything together, empty the container, or add and remove individual items from the container.[10]
Some restrictions govern what can be placed in inventory:
- The crawler must be able to physically lift the item off the ground for ~4 seconds to add it to inventory.[2]
- If a living creature is added to inventory (without a Pet Carrier), it will immediately die.[2]
- Fine powders (such as gun powder and meth) and similar items must be placed in containers.[12]
- Due to a patch added ~35 hours before the Fourth Floor collapses, liquids must be in containers to be stored in inventory.[13]
- A crawler can add currently equipped gear to their inventory.[14]
Removing Items
Clicking on an item in the Inventory Menu will physically teleport the item into the crawler's hand or vicinity, and remove the item from the inventory list.[2] The average crawler cannot view their Inventory History; when an item is removed, they can no longer view its properties or even a record that they possessed the item.[8]
A First Floor patch implemented ~32 hours after the Dungeon notes that items no longer preserve momentum when added to inventory, so "it's now safe to extract items you put into inventory while moving at a high rate of speed."[11]
Exception: Quadrupeds
Quadruped species, such as Cats, have a different interface and different rules. They do not have to touch loose, lightweight items such as slingshots and dice to add them to inventory; instead, they simply have to be close to the object to add it.[15]
Storage Mechanics
For possibly in the first time in Dungeon Crawler World history, inventory is time-locked: food items will not expire, and explosives do not destabilize.[2] If an explosive is lit when it is placed in inventory, it will still be lit when removed from inventory.[16]

Equipped Gear
Crawlers have a finite number of "Equipment Slots" where enchanted or buffed items can be worn.[17] Only one magical item can be equipped in a slot at a given time. These slots include but are not limited to: Head, Face, Neck, Chest, Nipples, Arms, Legs, Hands, Fingers, Feet, Toes.
A crawler can transfer equipped gear directly from their bodies and into their inventory. Bipedal (humanoid) crawlers cannot equip items directly from inventory, even if the item is in their hotlist; instead, they need to remove the item from inventory and then physically equip it.[14] Quadruped crawlers (e.g. cats) have a different interface that allows them to equip items and perform actions such as opening doors directly from their HUD.[3]

Loot
The crawler who deals the killing blow or deals the most damage has first rights to loot a creature's corpse after combat; however, their exclusive rights expire after roughly 10 minutes or if they "X" out the creature's inventory box in their HUD, and the body becomes fair game.[4][16][9] Crawlers can add or remove items from a corpse's inventory.[4][16]
When a crawler is killed, other crawlers can loot everything from the deceased crawler's inventory except unopened Loot Boxes. Crawlers must have physical access to the deceased's body to loot it.[18]
NPCs, mobs, and "non-Dungeon generated combatants" (e.g. tourists) are able to loot deceased mobs' and crawlers' bodies, but cannot access a deceased crawler's inventory.[18]
Mobs, NPCs, and non-Dungeon-Generated Combatants
Mobs, NPCs, and "non-Dungeon Generated Combatants" use the older inventory interface: it looks like a grid-pattern, and has limited capacity and standard weight limits.[2][16] Larger items consume more space in the grid.
Related Mechanics
The System AI deals various achievements for looting items, using the inventory, and equipping gear. Various skills and status effects also influence a crawler's ability to interact with their inventory.
