Hole is a utility spell that creates a temporary hole in a surface of the caster's choice. Although the spell is unable to penetrate most doors at level one, Mordecai notes that it becomes increasingly useful at higher levels, "Especially if you’re creative with it.”[1]

Description

Allows the caster to instantly carve a cylindrical volume, a hole, out of a surface of their choosing. The diameter of the hole by default is about the size of a manhole cover, but it can be changed with practice. The depth of the hole scales at 3cm per spell level. At level 1 it creates more of a dimple in most surfaces rather than a hole. When the spell ends the hole disappears, leaving the affected area undamaged.

Anything that can fit in the hole created by the spell can pass through it, but the spell can also be used offensively to create portal cuts. When the spell ends it destroys any matter that's occupying the space created by the spell.

Levels

  1. Level 1: One inch dimple into walls[2]
  2. Level 2: Inch deep hole[3]
  3. Level 3: Allows for variation in the diameter of the hole

Story

Book 3

  • Donut learns Hole from a Dungeon Book of the Floor Club spellbook after arriving on the Fourth Floor. She scrunches her nose at the description and suggests selling the book, but Mordecai tells her to read it.[4]
  • Donut trains this spell when fighting Cornets, but at this point the spell only puts a one inch dimple into walls. [2]
  • Donut casts her Hole Spell as part of the Play Doozy against Gore-Gore but at this point her hole spell is only an inch deep and he barely stumbles. [3]
  • Donut again practices with her Hole Spell when waiting for the Dismemberment Limited, getting the hole up to two inches deep. She practices a Play called Surprise One which consists of Donut casting Hole and Mongo shoving his head through to bite. [5]
  • She continues training the spell while the team waits for the Nightmare Express, training the skill to level 3. She can cast Hole, then Clockwork Triplicate and the triplicates will appear on the other side of the hole. [6]
