Now, if you’ve never had a flaming, skull-faced bear on roller skates barreling at you full speed, you don’t know what you’re missing.[1]

Once an attraction at Grimaldi's Traveling Circus on the Third Floor, Heather the Bear was transformed into a monstrous Neighborhood Boss by Scolopendra's curse.[2]

Description

Heather the Bear!
Level 19 Neighborhood Boss!

Performing since she was a cub, Heather the Roller-Skating Bear was one of the longest-running attractions at Grimaldi’s Traveling Circus. Her retirement had been only weeks away when the cataclysm hit. Now the tired, old bear has been transformed into a monstrosity, barely recognizable from her former self. She lives out her days as a hunter for the circus, seeking out juicy mobs and unsuspecting crawlers. She finds and incapacitates her prey using her overwhelming speed and strength. Then she drags her quarry back to the circus so the clowns may feed.

Somewhere in there, deep, deep down, there is a spark of the old Heather. The beloved bear has moments of lucidity as she runs down her terrified prey. In those brief moments, she thinks: Good. I’ve always hated all you assholes, anyway.[4]

Appearance

An exceptionally large former-black bear, Heather's skinless face is nothing but exposed skull and round red eyes, fused to a tattered pink clown hat that sits cockeyed on her skull and a pleated clown ruff around her neck. Her two front paws have been replaced by dozens undulating white worms, which glow and extend. She wears a pink tutu on her waist and well-oiled roller skates on her two back feet.[2]

When the worms come in contact with prey, they begin to burrow into flesh and immediately begin talking in their prey's mind.[1]

Story

Book 2

Tsarina Signet of The Vengeance of the Daughter sacrificed countless victims to Heather over the years before asking Carl to kill Heather, claiming Heather's blood will be some of the most potent blood she's used for her summons.[2]

Carl ultimately defeats Heather by healing her with a Fireball or Custard? scratch-off ticket. The custard kills the worms and restores her to a mostly-normal female black bear (which, according to Mordecai's not-so-helpful advice, is smarter than a male black bear).

End it, those bitter eyes said. I should never have lived this long. She made a quick, pained whimper, and her eyes closed.”[1]
