Health, numerically represented as hit points (HP), is a core Dungeon mechanic that defines how much damage a character can withstand before death.[1] For crawlers, Health is represented by a Health Bar in the Heads-Up Display (HUD) and broken down in detail in the Health Menu.
Health Mechanics
A character's total Health pool is tied to their Constitution level. If a character's health reaches zero, the character permanently dies.[2]
Health slowly regenerates over time; characters with higher Constitution will recover health more quickly, but recovery can also be augmented by status effects, spells, items, and skills. A crawler's health will instantly refill when they enter a stairwell.[2]
In general, most injuries will heal over time; however, amputated body parts will not grow back. Unfortunately, the System AI may choose not to heal injuries or scars that it finds entertaining.
A character presumably falls unconscious when their health dips below 6 or 5%; however, no firm number is established in the books.[3]
Crawler Interface
Health Bar
The Health Bar appears as a long green bar in the top right of the crawler's vision, just above the Mana Bar and Countdown Timer.[2] It represents the crawler's overall HP, and blinks red when a crawler's health is low.
Health Menu
The Health Menu, accessed through the Crawler Menus, is a more extensive pie chart that indicates any active status conditions (e.g. buffs, debuffs, injuries).[2] The Crawler is able to drill down and see which areas are affected, as well as detailed explanations of injuries and the healing process.[4] If the crawler sustains enough damage, the entire pie chart may blink red.[3]
In Combat
Crawlers can view health bars above mobs' heads only after the mob takes damage.[5]
Health Enhancements
Certain buffs, debuffs, items, skills, and spells alter Health mechanics. For example: the Regeneration Skill accelerates healing and automatically triages injuries, and the Cockroach Skill allows a crawler to survive the first time their Health drops to zero during a fight.[6]
Spells such as Heal Spell, Heal Critter, and Heal Party, and items such as the Healing Potion can be used to recover health more quickly.
