I imagine it’s time you learned of my secret affair. A princess and a ruffian. It wasn’t meant to be, but our love was pure.
Donut (Book 2, Chapter 19)
Ferdinand (actually named "Gravy Boat") is a yellow and orange cat who lived with Marjory Williams on the first floor of Carl's Seattle, WA apartment.[1][2]
Description
An unneutered indoor/outdoor cat, Gravy Boat had impregnated every female cat within three square blocks and would sit outside Carl's second-floor window when Donut was in heat.[1] Beatrice called him "Ferdinand" before she learned his real name.[3] She called animal control on him twice and screamed at his owner Marjory about his presence.[1]
He was outside during the transformation, and was later found starving and half-feral by Brad and Bea. Ferdinand returned to New Queen Anne with them, and slept with Bea at night while she sang to him: “Good boy, good boy, you’re a good boy, Ferdinand. You’re no Gravy Boat. Oh no, oh no. I’d take it all back and let you in. I’d do it all over again. I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry, Ferdinand. I should have let you in.”[3]
Due to his connection to Donut, he is added to the Walk-On List and abducted by mercenaries, who sell him to the Borant Corporation. Borant transforms him into a Sixth Floor Province Boss and Queen Imogen's familiar. He speaks in a gruff, New Yorkish voice.
AI Description
Sir Ferdinand. Cat.
Familiar of Queen Imogen of the High Elves.
Level 100 Province Boss.
It’s not easy to live amongst the high elves, especially when you’re not a high elf yourself. Over the centuries, countless adorable creatures have found themselves upon the laps of high elf royalty. It is a dangerous place to sit.
Eventually, the elven kings and queens have tired of their pets. Or discovered them to be too intelligent. Too cunning. Too eager. And eventually, the kings and queens would order not just the execution of the pet, but of the entire species. It is the way of the high elves.
Ferdinand owes his life to the fact that Queen Imogen is rather fond of him. She’s fond of him in the same way a surgeon is fond of their favorite scalpel or a mass murderer is fond of their favorite chainsaw.
“Like all cats, Ferdinand’s biggest weakness is the fact he is utterly convinced that whatever thought enters his chicken nugget-sized brain is not just the truth, but it is the obvious, unalienable truth and anyone who thinks anything otherwise is not just a fool, but an imbecile deserving of nothing less than utter contempt and mockery. He is prone to self-aggrandizing behavior. He doesn’t understand the concept of being told no. He doesn’t understand the concept of not being worshiped.
It’s rumored he’s somehow even managed to sneak a small amount of magical control over the castle itself, slipping a few cat-sized hallways here and there where nobody else would notice. He never even thought to ask permission. The idea of asking for permission to do anything is antithetical to his very nature.
And it’s not just Ferdinand. This is typical of the entire species. Cats don’t ask for permission. They never apologize.
They’re soulless murderers. All of them.[4]
Appearance
Ferdinand is an orange cat.

Story
Pre-Dungeon
"Ferdinand" (aka Gravy Boat) was a cat owned by a woman on the first floor of the apartment building Carl and Bea lived in, Marjory. He was known for getting female cats pregnant, and would sit outside Donut's window when she was in heat. Bea had called animal control and yelled at Marjory to control her cat. [1]
Book 2
While Donut is under Tsarina Signet's Water Lily Spell, she has a dream that Ferdinand turned into a porcupine. This is most likely because she was attacked by Street Urchins while she was unconscious. [5]
While on the show Danger Zone with Ripper Wonton, a Gleener audience member asks about who Ferdinand is. Donut makes the following statement:
“Ferdinand is the love of my life. But we’ve had a tragic courtship. He visited me often at night. We’d gaze upon each other across the wide expanse, and we both knew it was a love that couldn’t be. For we were star-crossed lovers, and he was hunted by the authorities. In royal circles, he was reviled, branded as a ‘Moggie,’ a non-pedigreed cat. It is why I’d jumped out the window that night. I could sense him out there, calling to me.” [1]
Carl immediately asks if she's talking about the mangy cat outside the window. He informs her his name was "Gravy Boat". [1]
Book 5
Ferdinand makes his grand debut from inside a shrouded howdah atop Simoom, a level-75 Heavy Battle Rhino Mount with armored white skin and glowing red eyes. He fires a powerful lightning bolt at Mongo, but Donut takes the attack instead; she only survives because of her Cockroach Skill.[6]
He was sent down to the 9th floor by the Zerzura Spell along with everyone else inside the High Elf Castle. He managed to escape to the city but lost his hat.
Abilities
His turban gives him a lightning spell and can turm him invisible. He's also able to phase jump and has a powerful claw attack.
