Exit Deals allow surviving crawlers to exit the Dungeon in exchange for years of indentured servitude to the production company.[2] Although crawlers can accept Exit Deals after entering the Tenth Floor, the options and terms become more favorable as crawlers reach lower levels.[2][3] Crawlers who receive rare achievements or high ratings generally receive better deals.[4]
While early deals were based on cycles of service[5], the terms were changed shortly after Mordecai made his bargain. Where indentured crawlers could previously work on any season of Dungeon Crawler World, they can now only serve on seasons hosted by the same company that offered the deal to them.[6] This essentially means that every "cycle" is truly equal to 7 to 15 cycles (approximately 16 - 34 years).[7][8]
After accepting a deal, the crawler may never see their former allies again.[4][9]
Process
“When a crawler hits the tenth floor, he gains a teeny, tiny bit of autonomy over his fate. He’s officially a citizen of the Syndicate. The moment anybody becomes a citizen, the Syndicate bends them over and fucks them. I can’t stop you from getting fucked. But I am the condom. You guys have condoms on your world? Of course you do. Everybody has condoms. Your ass is gonna hurt no matter what, but at least you won’t have tryptic genital mites after.”-- Quasar[10]
In previous Borant Corporation-controlled seasons, surviving crawlers automatically generate inside Outreach Guilds after arriving on the Tenth Floor, and again each time they move to a lower level.[4] Since crawlers technically gain citizenship on the Tenth Floor, a Syndicate lawyer can help them to negotiate the terms of their deal.[11]
On the Twelfth Floor, at least one former crawler (Odette) was given the option to make a deal after entering a stairwell but before descending to the Thirteenth Floor.[12] It is unclear whether this process involved outreach guilds or lawyers.
Exit Options
There appear to be a variety of options available to former crawlers. Most options do not include protections, so the crawler can be killed in future Dungeons.
Club Attendants
While the NPCs in the Desperado Club appear to have a different obligation to Borant, Ian mentions that he typically serves as a Club Vanquisher attendant.[13]
Demigod Attendants
Crawlers may secure deals to serve as demigod attendants during the Twelfth Floor Celestial Ascendancy of future seasons, meaning they work alongside a sponsored god. This deal may require slightly less service time than serving as a Guildmaster.[4]
Event Hosts
Chaco hosts the Prize Carousel and the prize counter on the Sixth Floor.[9] The terms of his deal are unclear, but appear to be ongoing.
Guildmasters/Game Guides
Odette, Mordecai, and Mistress Tiatha took positions as Guildmasters. They serve as Game Guides to new crawlers on the first three levels before moving to lower floors, where they work as Guildmasters of various Guild Halls.[2] Their contracts can be extended or reduced based on how far their crawlers progress inside the Dungeon,[12][4] but Chaco notes, "Everyone knows guides get out faster than anybody else."[14]
These appear to be the only NPCs who can also serve as Managers. While Odette had the option to volunteer for the position, Managers are now a benefit tied to certain races and classes.[6][15]
Hunting Ground Attendants
"Last hunting season, one of them killed my brother for no reason. Was working a food stand. Ripped his head right off, and since the guards didn’t see it, they did nothing.”-- Ian[16]
Most if not all NPCs present during the Sixth Floor Class Selection process are former crawlers. Former crawlers may also serve in various establishments around the city. These crawlers are penalized if they break character or reveal their true identities.[13]
