“Your tattoos enhance your beauty and are culturally important. Carl’s tattoos make him look like someone whose mugshot would go viral.”[1]

Enemy of the Church Tattoos mark the bearer as the enemy of a specific deity and all of its worshippers. The bearer gains a 25% damage bonus against adherents of the deity, but all adherents of the deity will attack the bearer on sight.[2]

The tattoo cannot be hidden or concealed by a Cover-Up Sleeve; the only way to remove it is to kill the associated deity or chop off your arm. As the System AI helpfully points out, "One of those is a lot easier than the other."[2]

Diwata

Carl receives this large tattoo in a Gold Apostate Box rewarded for the Temple Defiler Achievement on the Sixth Floor. It appears on his upper left arm, and looks like a flaming ball of snakes; one of the snake heads stretches down and curls around the web pattern on his elbow.[2]

The tattoo has the following effects:

  • You may not worship Diwata or her allies.
  • Outside of Club Vanquisher, all adherents of Diwata will attack you on sight.
  • 25% bonus damage against adherents of Diwata.
  • + additional 25% bonus damage (for a total of 50%), due to being an adherent of Emberus.[2]

The System AI adds:

Warning: Uh, so this is a big one, so listen closely. Don’t let Diwata see you. Ever. If she shows up at a party, and you’re there, you best be sneaking out the back door. That’s all I’m saying about that.[3]
