“Cats don’t drink cocktails,” I said.
“Cats don’t shoot lasers from their eyes either, but here we are, Carl. Mama needs a night off.”— Book 2, Chapter 15
Grand Champion, Breed Winner Regional, National Winner Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk is the deuteragonist of Dungeon Crawler Carl. A tortoiseshell Persian cat, she is the party leader of the Royal Court of Princess Donut and a fan favorite crawler on Dungeon Crawler World: Earth.
Description
Before entering the Dungeon, Princess Donut was a pedigreed, award-winning show cat who belonged to Carl's ex-girlfriend Beatrice and was bred by Bea's family. She participated in shows "almost every weekend," and a full bedroom of their two-bedroom apartment was dedicated to her ribbons, trophies, and awards.[1] At home, Donut enjoyed yogurt and Purrfect Cat Treats, and spent her free time watching television or sitting in Carl's lap while he played video games.[4][5]
The morning of the transformation, Donut escapes the apartment for the first time to search for Ferdinand, and Carl braves the freezing winter night to rescue her.[1][6] Carl carries her down the surface-level staircase, and Donut receives a Legendary Quadruped Box for being the first cat to enter the Dungeon. As the first crawler to enter the Dungeon with a cat, Carl receives a Legendary Pet Box containing an Enhanced Pet Biscuit, which Donut snaps out of his hand before melting into a furry heap of goo.[7]
Eventually, she emerges as a talking, sapient cat with the Enhanced Growth Buff, which elevates her base stats and gives her four (automatically assigned) stat points each time she levels up. As the party member with the highest total stat points, she is designated party leader and promptly renames the party to "the Royal Court of Princess Donut." She opens her Quadruped Box and does not read the description before equipping its prize, the Enchanted Crown of the Sepsis Whore, which requires her to slay the entire Blood Sultanate royal family on the Ninth Floor.[8] Near the end of the Second Floor, she insists on adopting Mongo, who she treats like her child.
Donut's low constitution prevents her from engaging in melee combat; instead, she largely relies on charisma and spells. After arriving on the Third Floor, she selects the Cat race and the bard/rogue class Former Child Actor Class, which allows her to pick a new class on each level. As her repertoire of skills and spells continues to grow, she is rapidly becoming a jack-of-all-trades in the dungeon and a social media force in the galaxy.
Appearance
A tortoiseshell Persian, Donut has large yellow eyes and is generally described as "one of those fluffy, flat-faced cats that look like they need to be sitting on the lap of a Bond villain" and as "fuzzy, black and beige and white."[1][2] After her first floor transformation, she is maybe "a little bigger, but not by much."[8] Her voice is "sultry yet pompous," and reminiscent of a "medieval princess."[7]
She receives a Desperado Pass Tattoo on her right shoulder blade; it glows through her fur, and looks like a gold-colored splotch through her fur.[9]

Personality
Have you ever woken up from a long dream, one where you’re one thing, and now that you’re awake, it takes you a moment to realize that’s not who you really are?[10]
Princess Donut is a cat. She's vain, likes pretty things, and is initially afraid of getting dirty or injured. As she adjusts to her new awareness, she is rude enough that Carl prepares to leave her behind. She apologizes and they work together (with some hiccups) to survive.[11] While Donut has moments where she can charm NPCs to give the group what she wants, she can also be extremely abrasive in less than opportune moments.
Donut lives for the spotlight and pretends to be less clever than she is, but she is also extremely possessive and protective of "her" people. She shows affection with head-bumps, purrs, and enthusiastic messages in all caps. She has a deep fear of being left behind or abandoned. She treats Mongo like a child and acts like a mother bear when he acts against her wishes, as seen when he was mating with Kiwi, which she interprets as statutory rape.
History
Donut's entire family line is named for food items.[12] Her grandmother is Princess Chonkalot, and her grandfather was also her uncle.[13]
Beatrice and Carl brought Donut home as a kitten four years ago. An indoor cat, she spent her days watching Lifetime, HGTV, A-Team, and a series of other programs and shows while the humans were at work.[13] In the most upsetting moment of her pre-dungeon life, Angel, the neighbor's cocker spaniel, broke one of Donut's jingly ball toys.[9]

Trivia
- Donut is deliberately depicted incorrectly on the book covers and in the Donut Holes logo. Matt Dinniman commented on reddit, "Before I wrote books, I drew pictures of cats for a living. Torties are my favorite cats, but they are—by far—the most difficult colorings to draw, and I wasn't going to subject another artist to that."[14]
