201st Security Group Militia

"You defeated our champion, Vicente. He trained his entire life for the final battle. Now he blossoms on Her tree. The master had warned us a single champion would not be enough. We are chastened that we did not follow his guidance. We shall not make that mistake again. Now you will face all of us.” -- Salvatore[1]

Description

The city elves are a "batshit crazy, doomsday cult of banished elves" who traveled from the Sixth Floor Hunting Grounds to the Over City, joined the uniformed 201st Security Group Militia, and swore to protect the Skyfowl from flightless creatures and the Oak Fell. They believe that one of Scolopendra's nine-tier attacks was a spell that made earthbound creatures want to kill the skyfowl, and that protecting skyfowl will ensure their places in heaven when the goddess Apito, the Oak Mother, ends the world.[2]

The cult bases their beliefs on three separate stories, which boil down to:

  • Apito said that for anyone to go to heaven, her angels must stay free and alive.
  • Apito referred to the skyfowl "bless-ed."
  • Apito said only the angels are "blessed," and if violence against her angels is not stopped, she will destroy all worlds.[2]

The volunteer militia run the Apito Education Center, serve as door guards in skyfowl settlements, and generally provide free labor for the skyfowl. On the Third Floor, most members are level 16.[3]

Divisions

There are several different arms, ranks, and positions within the 201st Security Group.

Members of Magical Ops practice various schools of magic.[3]

The Apito Education Center is the group's "outreach department," and managed by Temple Recruitment Wand Bearers who may belong to any arm of the group. The System AI describes the Wand Bearers as "some of the most pious, most indoctrinated, and therefore, the most dangerous members of the silly little cult."[3]

Appearance

Members of the Magical Ops Division wear black shirts with a hand-sewn arm patch displaying the group's logo, and a heat-transferred simple chest patch bearing the member's name.[2]

The 201st Security Group's logo is shaped like a shield, and shows a "crossed lightning bolt with a magic wand being grasped by a talon with a tree in the background." It bears the organization's name, and the division that the city elf is part of. The logo is worn as an arm patch, hand-sewn in a chain-stitch.[2]

Story

Book 2

The elf Vincente lures Mongo into an alleyway in the Medium Skyfowl Settlement as Carl and Donut exit the Desperado Club. In the alleyway lies the body of GumGum and three Krasue. The Krasue are scared away by Donut's Torch Spell and Carl kicks Vincente in the nuts so hard he dies. [4]

In Magistrate Featherfall's medium skyfowl settlement, the twelve Magical Ops members willingly do the dark cleric's bedding. They tortured and murdered GumGum after she began investigating the dead prostitutes.

After Donut equips the Enchanted Anklet of the Fallen Oak, the nine remaining members become convinced that Donut is the Oak Fell, Apito's version of the Anti-Christ that is prophesied to unravel the heavens and kill all the gods. They call her "the bearer of the forbidden oak" and rave about the end of days, while eating acorns that give them the Magical Fervor buff. Although Carl and Donut plan to sic the City Guards on the militia, Eunice instead whacks Salvatore with her rolling pin, and Carl kills the rest with a Carl's Jug O' Boom.[3]
